Animal Policy, Research and Litigation
In many parts of Uganda and Africa, animals continue to suffer in silence. They are used, harmed, and discarded without protection. The systems that should defend them are often weak, ignored, or non-existent.
Our Policy, Research and Litigation program exists to give animals the voice they have never had: to push for laws that rotect them, to use truth and data to challenge cruelty, and to seek justice when they are abused.
“We believe that the well-being of animals is not just a moral concern; it is deeply connected to the health of our communities, our environment, and our shared future.”
— Julius Kirumira, Founder
Changing Systems, Not Just Situations
Animals will never be safe unless the systems around them change. That is why we work to shape policies that go beyond temporary rescue; they create real and lasting protections.
We meet with lawmakers, government officials, and traditional leaders to speak on behalf of animals. We write policy proposals, contribute to national strategies, and attend legislative meetings to ensure animal welfare is not forgotten.
Whether it is pushing for bans on cruel farming practices, wildlife trade reform, or stronger penalties for abuse, we use every tool available to bring animals into the legal conversation.
We also understand that policies must be practical and locally grounded. So we consult with communities, farmers, educators, and veterinarians to ensure that the laws we push for are both effective and realistic in the African context. Change should not only be written in law books, it should be felt in the lives of animals on the ground.
Using Truth to Drive Compassion
We believe that feelings must be supported by facts. Many decisions affecting animals — whether in government, farming, education, or public health — are made without reliable information. We work to change that.
Our team conducts and supports research that reveals the realities of animal suffering and the systems that enable it. We explore questions such as:
- How are animals transported, sold, or slaughtered?
- What is the link between animal cruelty and public health risks?
- How do communities perceive animal welfare and where can change begin?
We gather this information through interviews, surveys, site visits, and collaboration with academic institutions. The insights we gain help us design smarter, more humane solutions and assist others in doing the same.
Our research also serves as a foundation for public education, advocacy, and legal action. By putting credible African-centered data into the hands of decision-makers, we create a powerful case for change rooted not just in compassion but in truth.
Seeking Justice When Laws Are Broken
In many cases, the law is on the side of animals but it is ignored. Abuse continues not because laws are missing but because no one is watching, no one is acting, and no one is held accountable. That is where litigation comes in.
We work with lawyers, animal welfare advocates, and affected communities to take legal action when animals are mistreated. Whether it’s challenging illegal slaughterhouses, exposing cruelty in transport, or defending endangered wildlife, we step in when silence is no longer an option.
Our goal is not just to punish cruelty but to make sure it cannot continue. We push for court decisions that set new standards and for the legal system to recognize that animal lives matter. We also offer legal training and support to other advocates who want to protect animals in their regions.
Why This Program Matters
This program is about more than rules, data or courtrooms. It is about animals who
suffer quietly behind closed doors. It is about the calf beaten in a market, the dog
poisoned in the street, the hen caged with no light or space to move, the fish left to
suffocate on a hot surface.
These lives are not statistics; they are beings who feel
pain, fear and joy just like we do. Through Policy, Research and Litigation, we
fight to create a world where animals are not seen as tools but as lives worth
protecting. A world where cruelty is no longer ignored and where justice is not
only for humans.
We are building a future where every animal in Africa can live
free from unnecessary suffering, protected by law, understood through knowledge
and defended by brave voices that refuse to look away.
